Buying a pocket knife, what are your wishes?

If you choose a knife, it is wise to choose a knife based on certain properties. These are the properties that the knife should meet in your situation. For example, a rescue knife should be easy to open, while a sailor's knife should not just snap shut when you are working. Fortunately, we select most knives in our range for characteristics that contribute to the durability and especially the reliability of the pocket knives.

Weight

To prevent you from feeling like you are carrying a paving stone instead of a knife, weight is an extremely important and often underestimated factor. The experience of weight can be very personal. Most people do not find a knife up to about 85 grams disturbing. Others take more weight into the bargain, because robustness and/or size is a more important characteristic for this group of users. A pocket knife can still be carried up to about 120 grams, above that most people give up, unless the knife can be carried in the pack or on a belt.

Weight determines how comfortably you can carry a pocket knife with you. Up to 85 is perfect, and between 85 and 120 grams is acceptable for most people.

Size

Just like weight, size plays a role in whether or not a knife can be comfortably carried. A large knife has more cutting edge, of course, but that can also be compensated for by a serrated blade. Each cartel is actually a small knife. And, if you straighten all the serrations, your knife would be a lot longer. A short serrated knife can therefore have just as much cutting capacity as a longer smooth blade. Size is generally determined by your own preference. Grinding cartels does require practice.

Size determines the deployability of the knife and influences the wear.

Appearance

If you take a pocket knife to work and you want to peel your apple, it can just happen that you see a lot of shocked faces from colleagues around you afterwards. A large tactical knife has a completely different appearance than a colored small knife. The choice of size and color sometimes influences your environment. If you don't want to scare everyone if you need your knife once, then it is wise to take this into account.

A colored and smaller knife looks more friendly on your environment than a tactical knife.

Steel type

The ultimate steel for a blade does not rust, always remains sharp and cannot break or splinter. However, this type of steel has not yet been invented or is exceptionally expensive. The knives from our selection generally consist of steels that are quite stainless, hardly wear and relatively easy to sharpen. The type of steel partly determines the price of the knife. A budget knife like one Ganzo knife is made from well-known and relatively good Chinese steels, but cannot compete with a more expensive knife Spyderco.

The quality of the steel grade can often be measured by the price.

Safety

Want to buy a pocket knife? Also think about your safety! When you use your knife, you don't want it to just collapse with all the consequences that entails. Almost all knives in our range are therefore equipped with a blade lock. This means that if you unfold the blade, it cannot simply collapse again. Depending on the type of blocking, you can only fold the blade again by performing an extra action. Well-known examples of blocks are the 'backlock' and the 'inline framelock'.

A lock on the blade prevents accidents.

Pricing

It is clear that the materials, the designer and the brand determine the price of a pocket knife. Knifestore generally sells knives from the more expensive class, because the quality of this is pretty well guaranteed. On Ganzo na, you can not expect great wonders from the cheaper knives, but you can have a lot of fun with it.

With knives, the price often depends on the quality.

Buy the best pocket knife for everyday use

Our range is large and it may therefore be difficult to determine which pocket knife is best to buy. To get that clear, you can ask yourself what you want to use the knife for. For example, don't you want to have to think about where to take your pocket knife? Then the 'Roadie' from Spyderco an excellent choice. With a few legal exceptions, this variant can be used and worn legally anywhere in Europe. We are happy to give personal advice.

Buy a pocket knife cheaply and quickly

Are you not going to use the knife that often, but do you want to have a copy at home because it is simply very handy? Then you may be looking for an affordable knife. That is why we mentioned them above: the knives of Ganzo. These are relatively cheap to purchase, but do exactly what you can expect from a good and solid pocket knife.

Legislation in the Netherlands and abroad

The Netherlands

All knives we sell are legal to own according to the Dutch Weapons Act. Where and when you can carry a knife depends on the purpose and location, and not just obvious. If you want to know more about this, read our page about the Dutch Weapons Act.

Abroad

Dutch weapons legislation is fairly similar to weapon laws in other European countries. However, there are exceptions, including the UK and Denmark, where not everything that is allowed here is allowed. Before taking a knife abroad, it is highly advisable to take a closer look at the laws that apply there. This prevents very nasty surprises.
